Who are the most iconic mythological heroes?

In ancient Greek myths there is of course Achilles, who was known as an unrivaled fighter, and his friend Odysseus, who came up with the plot to use a wooden horse to infiltrate Troy. The oldest English hero is Beowulf, who ends up fighting a dragon, but the most famous English hero of mythology is probably the tragic King Arthur. There are also many ancient heroes of myth in the east. One such hero is the Indian Rama, a divine archer who saved his wife from the demon-king Ravana. Another famous hero is the Sumerian king Gilgamesh, who defeats the Bull of Heaven. The Epic of Gilgamesh is also known as the oldest written text known to us.
