When is Carnival?

The date on which Carnival is celebrated is different every year. This is because the feast is linked to Easter. The 40 days before Easter are the traditional days of fasting for Catholics. The first day of fasting is ‘Ash Wednesday’. In preparation for Lent, the three days before Ash Wednesday are celebrated. So on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, it is officially Carnival. In practice, revellers always stick more days in.
