How does the economy affect gambling culture?

In Cameroon and Senegal, gambling is not socially accepted. Yet it is a popular pastime. This difference is due to the economic situation, where the population sees few alternatives to getting richer than buying lottery tickets. Conversely, in Papua New Guinea, gambling actually increased when prosperity increased in the country. The population had something to spend. Card games like blackjack and poker were seen as social, economic and even political activity in the middle of society. On an individual level, when a person travels, he is more likely to come under the influence of new cultural influences. Thus, prosperity can influence culturally in multiple ways and at multiple levels.
